Roborock robots, from the Q series to the Qrevo, S8 and Saros ranges, share the same app and many of the same parts. Most problems owners search for fall into a few groups: lidar or laser sensor errors, odd noises, charging and docking, and faults with the mop and the station. This guide walks through each, with checks you can do safely at home. Exact error codes and wording vary by model, so use the app message and your manual alongside it.

Lidar and laser distance sensor errors

Most Roborock models have a lidar turret on top that spins to measure distances. An error about the laser distance sensor or lidar usually means the turret cannot spin, is blocked, or its window is dirty. Check for anything pressing down on the turret, such as low furniture the robot has driven under, and clear hair or fluff around its base.

Wipe the turret window gently with a dry microfibre cloth. Some models, such as the Saros 10R, use a retracting or different sensor design; follow the manual for those. If the turret does not spin when the robot starts, or the error returns on open floor, the lidar module may need repair through Roborock.

  1. 1

Move the robot to open floor away from furniture.

  2. 2

Check nothing is pressing on or lodged around the turret.

  3. 3

Wipe the turret window with a dry cloth.

  4. 4

Restart the robot and listen for the turret spinning.

  5. 5

If the error returns, contact Roborock support.

Unusual noise

A new grinding, clicking or whining sound usually comes from hair or grit in the main brush, side brush, wheels or castor. Switch the robot off, remove and clean the brushes, clear hair from the brush end caps, and pull hair from the wheel axles and front castor.

A louder roar can just be a higher suction level or carpet boost. If the noise is coming from the dock, it may be the self-empty fan, which is loud for a few seconds by design. Our loud noise guide covers more causes, and brush not spinning helps if the brush is jammed.

Charging and docking

Clean the charging contacts on the robot and dock, check the dock is on hard, level floor with clear space around it, and make sure it is plugged in with the indicator on. A dock moved since mapping can confuse the robot; return it to the original spot or remap.

If the robot returns but does not charge, see robot vacuum not charging. If it never finds the dock, see won't dock.

Mop and dock faults

On Qrevo and S8 Ultra-style docks, most faults relate to the tanks, the bag or the washing tray. Make sure the clean-water tank is filled and seated, the dirty-water tank is empty and seated, the dust bag is fitted and the lid closed. Clean the washing tray and its filter, where hair collects.

If the mop stays dry, check the water level setting in the app and the outlets above the mop pads. Use Roborock's own cleaning solution or plain water only. Our mop not dispensing water guide has the full checklist.

App, firmware and resets

Roborock robots need a 2.4 GHz connection on most models. If the robot drops offline, restart the router and the robot and check the network name. Install firmware updates from the app, as they often fix navigation and docking bugs.

A restart, by switching the robot off and on, clears most temporary faults. A factory reset deletes maps and settings, so leave it until last and follow your model's manual. See how to reset a robot vacuum.

Note:Do not open the robot's casing or lidar module. Internal repairs should go through Roborock or an authorised repairer.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Roborock say laser distance sensor error? The lidar turret is blocked, pressed down or dirty. Move the robot to open floor, check the turret spins and wipe its window.

Can I calibrate the Roborock lidar? There is no user calibration for most models. If cleaning does not fix it, contact support.

Why is my Roborock so noisy? Usually hair in brushes or wheels, or a high suction setting. Clean and check the suction level.

Can I use a Roborock without the app? Yes, with the buttons on the robot, but you lose maps, zones and schedules. See do robot vacuums need Wi-Fi.
