In short
Broadly, Dreame's D series are the entry and mid-range robots with lidar and simple or self-emptying bases, the L series are mid to upper all-in-one robots with mop-washing docks, and the X series are the flagships with features such as retracting lidar and the strongest docks. Plus usually means a self-empty base, Ultra a full mop-washing dock, and Gen 2 an updated version of the same model.

Dreame sells a large number of robot vacuums in the UK, and the names can be confusing: D20 Plus, L40 Ultra Gen 2, L40s Ultra, X50 Ultra Complete, X60 Max Ultra. Once you understand the series letters and suffixes, though, you can tell a lot about a model before reading the spec sheet. This page decodes Dreame's naming and gives examples from current Amazon UK listings. Dreame updates its range often, so treat this as a guide rather than a strict rule.
The series letters
The letter at the start of the model name places the robot in Dreame's range. The D series covers lidar robots at the lower and middle price levels; the D9 Max is a simple lidar robot, the D20 Plus adds a self-emptying base with a 5 litre bag, and the D30 Ultra brings an all-in-one dock to the series.
The L series sits above it, with all-in-one docks that empty, wash and dry, extending mops and higher suction. Examples include the L10s Ultra Gen 2, L40 Ultra Gen 2, L40s Ultra and L50 Ultra. The X series holds the flagships, such as the X50 Ultra and X60 Max Ultra, with features like retracting lidar for low furniture. Dreame also has an Aqua line with roller mops.
| Series | Where it sits | Examples on UK listings |
|---|---|---|
| D | Entry to mid | D9 Max, D20 Plus, D20 Air Plus, D30 Ultra |
| L | Mid to upper, all-in-one | L10s Ultra Gen 2, L40 Ultra Gen 2, L40s Ultra, L50 Ultra |
| X | Flagship | X50 Ultra, X60 Max Ultra |
| Aqua | Roller-mop models | Aqua10 Roller |
What the suffixes mean
Suffixes tell you about the dock and the version. Plus usually means a self-emptying base without mop washing, as on the D20 Plus. Ultra means an all-in-one dock that empties, washes and dries the mop and refills water. Pro and Max mark upgraded versions, often with more suction or better obstacle avoidance.
Gen 2 means a second generation of the same model, usually with higher suction or a revised dock; the L40 Ultra Gen 2 lists 25,000 Pa. A small s, as in L40s, marks a variant with changes to brush, dock or mop. Complete normally means the same robot bundled with extra accessories or a different dock option, so compare the box contents.

Which series suits you
If you mainly want a reliable lidar robot that vacuums with light mopping and empties itself, the D series with a Plus base is enough. If you want daily mopping without touching the mop, look at the L series Ultra models, which bring hot washing and drying at a lower level than the flagships.
Choose an X series model if you have low furniture, want the strongest obstacle avoidance, or want the most automated dock. Compare robot heights with our clearance check tool, and see the best low-profile robots for slim options.
Checking a listing before you buy
Because Dreame sells many close variants, always check the full model name and what is in the box. The same base name can come with different docks, colours or bundles, and older generations stay on sale alongside newer ones. Confirm the listing is for the UK, with a UK plug, and note the bag type so you can buy the right spares.
