The Xiaomi H40 is a robot vacuum for flats and smaller homes where a tall self-emptying tower would dominate the hallway. Its base is a compact 32.6 cm design that Xiaomi says is 59% smaller than the previous generation, yet it holds a 4 L bag rated for up to 90 days. For anyone who wants to stop emptying a dust box by hand without giving up floor space, that small, high-capacity base is the main appeal.

In its favour

  • Compact 32.6 cm base is 59% smaller than the previous generation, according to Xiaomi.
  • 4 L bag lasts up to 90 days, so emptying is rare.
  • 10,000 Pa suction and a five-step anti-tangle system aimed at long-haired pets.

Good to know

  • Runtime of 100 minutes is the shortest listed here, though enough for many flats.
  • Mopping is a basic pad and tank; the base does not wash or dry it.

Our take

Suction and hair handling

Suction is listed at 10,000 Pa, aimed at dust in floor gaps, corners and under furniture. Xiaomi names paper scraps, coffee spills and pet food as things it handles in one session.

Hair gets particular attention. A five-step anti-tangle system sweeps, rolls, gathers, combs and lifts hair, using a comb-like structure and a V-shaped main brush, and Xiaomi says it is designed for homes with long-haired pets. That puts it ahead of many robots at this level on paper.

Mapping and control

LDS laser navigation scans 360° to build floor plans, plans its own paths and slows down near obstacles. The Xiaomi Home app lets you set zones, schedules and per-room cleaning modes on multi-layer 3D maps, and Google and Alexa voice commands are supported. The cleaning path is listed at 32.5 cm and the robot height at 9.7 cm.

Mopping and runtime

A mop pad and water tank come in the box, but the listing does not describe how mopping works or whether water flow can be adjusted. Treat it as a light damp wipe for hard floors, with the pad rinsed by hand.

Battery life is listed at 100 minutes, the shortest among the self-emptying robots on this site. That suits a flat or a small house, while larger homes may need the robot to recharge and continue. Xiaomi lists a two-year EU spare part availability period.

H40 against other compact options

The Roomba 205 DustCompactor needs no base at all but gives no Pa figure. The Tapo RV30 Max Plus runs for 150 minutes and has a 3-year warranty, but with 5,300 Pa. The H40 balances a small base with more suction and the best hair handling of the three.

Verdict

The H40 suits flats and small homes with pets where space for a station is tight and you want months between bag changes. If your home is larger and runtime matters, the Proscenic Q20Plus runs for 200 minutes with a bagless base. If you have no room for any base, the Roomba 205 DustCompactor stores dirt in the robot itself.
