The Dreame L40s Ultra is for homes where thresholds, door tracks and small steps keep stranding ordinary robots. Its EasyLeap system uses main and auxiliary climbing wheels to get over obstacles up to 1.57 inches, about 4 cm, which is double what most robots manage. Around that sits a well-equipped PowerDock and a detangling brush, so it also suits pet owners with a mix of hard floors and carpet in an older house.

In its favour

  • EasyLeap main and auxiliary climbing wheels cross thresholds and steps up to 4 cm, so it is less likely to get stuck.
  • HyperStream Detangling DuoBrush pairs a bristle brush with a TPU rubber brush to limit hair wrap.
  • PowerDock empties the bin for up to 100 days, rinses mops in hot water and dries them.

Good to know

  • The listing does not describe a camera or name any objects it avoids, so it is weaker on cables and pet mess.
  • Supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, according to the listing.

Our take

Climbing and carpets

EasyLeap is the headline. With an extra set of climbing wheels, the robot crosses raised thresholds and door tracks without getting stuck, according to Dreame.

For carpets, the app offers five strategies: detach the mops to keep carpet dry, lift them for low pile, avoid carpet altogether, vacuum carpet twice in an intensive mode, or boost suction. That flexibility helps in homes with several rug types.

Suction and the DuoBrush

A sixth-generation TurboForce motor delivers 19,000 Pa of Vormax suction, aimed at gaps in hard floors and carpet fibres, and Dreame says the motor keeps noise down. The HyperStream Detangling DuoBrush combines a bristled rubber brush with a TPU rubber brush to collect hair without tangling. Extending mops and side brush, under Dual Flex Arm technology, reach into corners.

The PowerDock and setup

The dock empties the dust box for up to 100 days, rinses the mop pads with 75°C water and dries them. It also refills cleaning solution and water and washes its own board, leaving little residue. The box includes two dust bags, two mop pads with holders, a ramp extension for the base and a 200 ml bottle of cleaning solution. Battery life is listed at 160 minutes, and only 2.4GHz Wi-Fi is supported. The spec table lists 110 V, so confirm the UK version.

L40s Ultra against other Dreames

The Dreame L50 Ultra raises the climbing height to 6 cm with ProLeap and adds 3D structured light avoidance of 180 obstacle types. The L40 Ultra Gen2 offers 25,000 Pa and a longer runtime but gives no climbing figure. The L40s sits between them, and its listing does not describe a camera or name objects it avoids, so tidy cables before runs.

Verdict

Pick the L40s Ultra if door sills and small steps are the main obstacle in your home and you want a capable dock and flexible carpet handling. If thresholds are higher still or obstacle recognition matters, the Dreame L50 Ultra is the better Dreame. If suction and runtime count for more than climbing, look at the L40 Ultra Gen2.
