The Dreame D9 Max is the entry point to Dreame's range and suits people who want proper lidar mapping and a basic mop for a modest home, without a large station. It charges on a simple dock and has no self-emptying base. Its strengths are a 5,200 mAh battery rated for 150 minutes, a bigger dust box than many basic robots and a mature app with mapping, zones and scheduling. It is a vacuum that also wipes, not a full mopping system.

In its favour
- The 5,200 mAh battery is rated for up to 150 minutes and the robot resumes where it left off after charging.
- Carpet boost raises suction automatically when it moves from hard floor onto carpet.
- Listing dimensions give a height of 9.6 cm, low enough for many sofas and beds.
Good to know
- At 4,000 Pa it has the lowest stated suction here, so expect less pull on thick rugs.
- No self-emptying base, and the app only works on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
Our take
Suction and carpet behaviour
Suction tops out at 4,000 Pa across four levels, and Dreame pitches it at homes with pet hair. When the robot moves from hard floor onto carpet, it raises suction automatically.
That figure is far below every other Dreame on this site, so thick rugs will not get a deep clean. On hard floors and thin carpet it should keep daily dust and hair under control.
Lidar navigation and the app
A 360° laser scanner builds and remembers the map of your home. In the app you can watch the robot's path, choose areas to clean, set schedules and virtual boundaries, and update firmware over the air. Alexa voice control is supported. Like most robots here, it needs a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection. When the battery runs low, it returns to charge and then resumes where it stopped, which helps on larger floors.
Bin, mop and upkeep
The dust box holds 570 ml, generous for a robot without a base, and the water tank holds 270 ml. Water level is controlled through the app. Because there is no auto-empty station, you tip out the bin by hand and rinse the mop yourself. Dreame lists a noise level of 65 dB in the bullets and 55 dB in the spec table, plus a two-year manufacturer warranty. The robot is listed at 9.6 cm tall.
D9 Max against similar robots
The Roborock Q7 BF is the closest match, also lidar-based with a compact charger and 150 minutes, but with a smaller 325 ml dust box and no suction figure. The Dreame D20 Air Plus jumps to 20,000 Pa and adds a 4 L self-emptying bag. The Ultenic offers 8,000 Pa and 200 minutes without a base.
Verdict
The D9 Max suits flats and small houses with mostly hard floors, where lidar navigation matters and you are happy to empty a bin. If you want more suction and a base that empties itself, the Dreame D20 Air Plus is the natural step up. If runtime is the priority, the Ultenic runs for longer on a charge.
