Xiaomi's 5 Pro is a full-size robot vacuum and mop that tries to have it both ways: a laser turret for accurate mapping, which drops down when the robot meets a low gap. It suits cluttered homes with pets, cables and socks on the floor, and with furniture that clears a little under 10 cm. The headline differences are the retracting radar and an AI camera system that Xiaomi says recognises over 200 objects.

Our take

The retracting radar explained

Most lidar robots carry a fixed turret that adds height. The 5 Pro uses a dToF radar that rises in open rooms and lowers in tight spaces, letting it reach areas as low as 9.5 cm, according to the listing. That is still taller than the 8 cm Roborock Saros models and the 7.2 cm eufy C10, so it will not get under the lowest sofas, but it opens up many beds and units that turret robots skip.

Obstacles, dirt and hair

The listing names cables, socks and plant stems among more than 200 objects it detects, with routes planned around them. Xiaomi also says the robot identifies the type of debris and adjusts its cleaning strategy. The highlight list mentions an AI triple-camera system, and an optional 5MP HD camera lets you check on pets and steer cleaning remotely.

For hair, there is an anti-tangle side brush and a dual-blade main brush that trims wrapped hair automatically. Pet waste is not named among the objects, which dog owners should keep in mind.

Suction, mop and base

Suction is listed at 20,000 Pa for carpets and hard floors. An extendable mop and side brush reach out along skirting and into corners. The base washes the mops with 80°C water, dries them and self-cleans using dirt detection, and the specification table mentions automatic dust collection, no-go zones and scheduling. Battery life is listed at 120 minutes, which may mean a recharge in larger homes, and the listing does not explain how the mop is kept off carpet.

Compared with the alternatives

For low furniture alone, the Ecovacs Deebot T50 Pro Omni reaches 81 mm with a full Omni station. For object avoidance, the iRobot Roomba 505 Combo names pet waste specifically, which the Xiaomi does not. The 5 Pro's strength is breadth: decent reach, strong suction, a hair-trimming brush and a remote camera in one robot.

Verdict

The Xiaomi 5 Pro suits busy households with carpets, long-haired pets and floor clutter, as long as the furniture clears 9.5 cm. If you need to reach gaps around 8 cm, the Ecovacs Deebot T50 Pro Omni or Roborock Saros 10R fit better. If dog accidents are a worry, the iRobot Roomba 505 Combo is the safer choice from the same guide.
