The Roomba s9+ is an older, vacuum-only iRobot with automatic dirt disposal, aimed at larger homes with pets. The current Amazon listing says very little about it, and that is the main thing a buyer needs to know. What it does confirm is a self-emptying system, an anti-allergen filter and corner and edge cleaning in the title, plus a wide 35.1 cm cleaning path. Everything else needs checking before you commit.

In its favour
- Automatic dirt disposal means the robot empties itself into its base
- Listing mentions powerful suction and an anti-allergen system with a HEPA filter
- Stated cleaning path width of 35.1 cm, aimed at corners, edges and pet hair
Good to know
- Obstacle avoidance, runtime and navigation type are not stated on this listing
- Vacuum only with no mopping, unlike the Combo models in this guide
Our take
What the listing confirms
The title describes a robot vacuum with automatic dirt disposal that empties itself, Wi-Fi connectivity, smart mapping, powerful suction, an anti-allergen system and attention to corners and edges. It also names pet hair as a target.
The specification table adds a HEPA filter, a 35.1 cm cleaning path and recommended use on carpet and hard floor. The listing recommends it for homes with pets and for large homes with multiple rooms.
What it leaves out
There is no runtime, no suction figure, no description of the navigation hardware and no mention of obstacle avoidance. The bullet points are little more than fragments about colour and suction. The spec table even lists the robot as 'corded', which does not fit a battery robot vacuum and is best treated as an error. Because of these gaps, comparing the s9+ directly with newer robots on paper is not possible.
Who it might still suit
If you already know the s9+ range, or are replacing one like for like, the listing confirms the essentials: self-emptying, HEPA filtration and Wi-Fi mapping. For a first robot, the newer Roombas on this site document far more. The box lists a dusting brush and instructions. There is no mop, so hard floors will only be vacuumed. Check the model number 9550 and the current UK support position before buying.
s9+ against newer Roombas
The Roomba Max 705 Combo adds lidar, PrecisionVision AI that recognises pet waste, a heated roller mop and a 75-day dock. The Roomba 505 Combo brings similar avoidance in a smaller package. The Roomba j7 offers camera avoidance without a base. Each of them gives clearer specifications than the s9+ listing.
Verdict
The s9+ makes sense mainly for buyers replacing an existing s9+ who know what they are getting. For anyone else, the Roomba 505 Combo or Roomba Max 705 Combo describe their navigation, avoidance and docks in far more detail, and add mopping. If you only want vacuuming with camera avoidance, the Roomba j7 is the clearer choice.
