**In short:** Pick Roborock if mopping matters as much as vacuuming: its docks wash and hot-air dry rotating mops, and the listings quote suction in Pa (12,000 Pa on the Qrevo 5AE, 22,000 Pa on the Saros 10R). Pick Shark if you mostly vacuum carpets and want a bagless self-empty base with no bags to buy, or a pad mop that is washed in the NeverTouch Pro base.

Roborock and Shark both sell lidar-mapping robots with self-emptying docks, but they come at the job from different directions. Roborock builds around the all-in-one dock: dust emptying, mop washing, hot-air drying and water refilling in one tower. Shark built its name on bagless self-empty bases and strong carpet pickup, and has since added a mop-washing base of its own. This comparison lines up two models from each brand using the facts on their Amazon UK listings, then tells you which suits which home.

## The short version: two different starting points

Roborock's current Qrevo and Saros models are vacuum and mop robots first. Twin rotating mop pads lift when the robot reaches carpet, and the dock handles nearly all the wet work. If your home is mostly hard floor (kitchen tiles, laminate, engineered wood), that is a strong fit. See how the wider range splits in our [Roborock models compared](https://dockandmop.co.uk/best/roborock-models-compared) guide.

Shark's Matrix Plus line pairs a vacuum with a vibrating ('sonic') mop pad and a **bagless** self-empty base. You empty the base bin into the household bin instead of buying dust bags. The newer PowerDetect models add the NeverTouch Pro base, which also refills the robot's water tank and washes and dries the mopping pad. The full line-up is set out in our [Shark robot vacuum range](https://dockandmop.co.uk/best/shark-robot-vacuum-range) guide.

## Spec table from the listings

These figures come from the Amazon UK listings for each model. Shark does not quote a suction figure in Pa on these listings, so that cell is marked as not stated rather than guessed.

| Model | Suction | Navigation | Mop type | Dock or base |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Roborock Qrevo 5AE | 12,000 Pa | Lidar plus structured light obstacle avoidance | Twin rotating mops, 200 RPM, 10 mm lift | Auto-empty, mop wash, hot-air drying, auto refill |
| Roborock Saros 10R | 22,000 Pa | 3D detection, slim body (about 8 cm) | FlexiArm rotating mop with lift | Auto dust removal, mop wash, hot-air drying |
| Shark PowerDetect NeverTouch Pro (AV2810ZEWH) | Not stated | 360° lidar plus 3D sensor | Pad mop, extends up to an inch at edges | Self-empty (60-day bin), self-refill, pad wash and dry |
| Shark Matrix Plus (AV2610WA) | Not stated | 360° lidar mapping | Sonic pad mop, scrubs 100 times a minute | Bagless HEPA self-empty base, 60-day capacity |

Roborock vs Shark: listing facts

## Mopping: rotating mops against sonic pads

This is the biggest practical difference. Roborock's twin rotating mops press and spin against the floor, and the FlexiArm on both Roborock models swings a mop outwards to reach skirting boards and furniture legs. The Qrevo 5AE listing gives 30 water-flow levels in the app and a 10 mm mop lift so short-pile rugs stay dry.

Shark's Matrix Plus uses a flat pad with sonic scrubbing. It vacuums and mops in the same pass, and the pad is removed and washed by hand after a mopping run. The PowerDetect NeverTouch Pro base takes over that chore: it washes and dries the pad after every clean and refills the tank, and the listing says the robot lifts itself over obstacles and keeps the pad off carpets. If hand-washing a pad sounds like a chore you would skip, budget for a model with a washing base.

## Docks, bags and upkeep

Roborock's docks are tall towers holding clean and dirty water tanks and a dust store. The Qrevo 5AE listing quotes about seven weeks of dust storage and automatic refilling of the robot's tank for runs of over 330 m². On most Roborock docks the dust goes into a disposable bag, so check the spare bag situation for your model.

Shark's selling point is the bagless base: the Matrix Plus and PowerDetect bases hold up to 60 days of debris according to the listings, and you tip the bin out. That saves buying bags but means a dustier emptying job, so do it outside or over a bin liner.

With either brand, a washing dock adds new jobs: emptying the dirty-water tank, rinsing the wash tray and topping up clean water if you do not have a plumbed dock. Our guide to [robot vacuum dust bags](https://dockandmop.co.uk/blog/robot-vacuum-dust-bags) covers bag and bin choices in more detail, and the [best self-emptying robot vacuums](https://dockandmop.co.uk/best/best-self-emptying-robot-vacuums) guide compares bases.

## Mapping, obstacles and the apps

Both brands use spinning lidar to map rooms, which works in the dark and builds a floor plan you can split into rooms in the app. The Qrevo 5AE adds structured-light sensors for cables and toys and stores up to four floor maps. The Saros 10R uses 3D detection and a slim body to get under low furniture, and its AdaptiLift chassis is listed as climbing thresholds up to about 4 cm.

Shark's Matrix Clean mode runs a grid pattern with multiple passes over a zone, and EdgeDetect uses air jets to push debris out of corners. The SharkClean app lets you set rooms, schedules and no-go areas; the Roborock app does the same, with SmartPlan adjusting suction and water per room. If your floors are cluttered, compare obstacle sensing in our [best robot vacuum with obstacle avoidance](https://dockandmop.co.uk/best/best-robot-vacuum-with-obstacle-avoidance) guide.

Before you buy either, measure the gap under your sofa and the height of your highest threshold, then run them through the [clearance check](https://dockandmop.co.uk/tools/clearance-check).

## Which homes suit which brand

Neither brand is better across the board. The deciding question is how much hard floor you have and whether you want the dock to look after the mop for you.

- **Mostly hard floors and you want hands-off mopping:** Roborock Qrevo 5AE.
- **Low furniture, high thresholds and a premium budget:** Roborock Saros 10R.
- **Carpet-heavy home, pets, and no wish to buy dust bags:** Shark Matrix Plus.
- **Shark's carpet focus but with a pad-washing, self-refilling base:** Shark PowerDetect NeverTouch Pro.

## Frequently asked questions

**Is Roborock or Shark better for pet hair?** Both list anti-tangle brushes. Shark's self-cleaning brushroll and bagless base suit carpeted homes with shedding pets, while Roborock's floating rubber brush and higher quoted suction suit mixed floors. Hair length and carpet pile matter more than the badge.

**Do Shark robots use bags?** The Matrix Plus and PowerDetect bases listed here are bagless, and you empty the base bin by hand. Roborock's docks on most models use disposable dust bags.

**Can a Shark robot wash its own mop?** The PowerDetect models with the NeverTouch Pro base wash and dry the pad after each clean, according to their listings. The Matrix Plus pad is washed by hand.

**Which is quieter?** Noise depends on the suction mode and the dock's emptying cycle, which is loud for a few seconds on both brands. Check the maker's quoted decibel figures and use a quiet or do-not-disturb schedule in the app.
